Wonder Kids Blog

Wayne Wonder Based in Gloucestershire in the U.K is one of the country's leading children's entertainers and winner of multiple awards across his field.

As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Fathers Day 2018

It's 2018 and fathers day is just around the corner.  I haven't covered fathers day in three years so I thought it's time for me to throw some fresh eyes on it and see what we can bring together this time around.  Now I was pretty happy with what I put together three years ago.  My favourite of the collection was the Zombie survival kit.  This year I am looking to take it further but first lets have a quick recap of what I have already covered. Just click on the pics for more details.

Lets kick off this years fathers Day guide with the top five gifts you can buy for dads this year. In no particular order here we go

With the popularity of the MCU and Guardians of the galaxy, not to mention the story from a galaxy far far away. This T-shirt is killing it at the moment.

Engraved Hammer, great gift for builders, carpenters or even the casual DIY, also a great gag gift for someone who lets say has had some unfortunate accidents with their repair jobs.

Apple AirPods, a huge success that is looking to be bigger than the Apple Watch.  Yes it's one of the most expensive gifts you can give but any tech loving dad is going to love them and lets face it when looking at tech gifts it's actually one of the most affordable gifts available.

Magnetic Wristband, another one for the fixer of the house.  I'll be honest, these actually look super helpful and I wouldn't mind owning a set myself.

Sonos Playbase, I don't think I have ever met a man that didn't enjoy a bit of TV wether it's watching sports, music, TV, Movies or playing Fortnite, this will enhance the experience to the nth degree. I prefer the black but it's also available in white too.

So there you go, my top 5 fathers day gifts.  let me know if I'm well off base in the comments below.  Lets move on with some super simple colouring pages and activity sheets.  First I have put tighter a great poem for you, use this as a gift on it's own, you could even frame, have the kids copy it or use it for the front of a card or something.

Maker Dad Book

In my long search for ideas, I came across this book and thought sounds great.  Ive ordered a copy to try out ideas with my daughter.  Let me know in the comments if you would like me to post a review of it. here is the description

As the editor in chief of MAKE magazine, Mark Frauenfelder has spent years combing through DIY books, but he's never been able to find one with geeky projects he can share with his two daughters. Maker Dad is the first DIY book to use cutting-edge (and affordable) technology in appealing projects for fathers and daughters to do together. These crafts and gadgets are both rewarding to make and delightful to play with. What's more, Maker Dad teaches girls lifelong skills--like computer programming, musicality, and how to use basic hand tools--as well as how to be creative problem solvers. The book's twenty-four unique projects include:

- Drawbot, a lively contraption that draws abstract patterns all by itself
- Ice Cream Sandwich Necklace
- Friendstrument, an electronic musical instrument girls can play with friends
- Longboard
- Antigravity Jar
- Silkscreened T-Shirt
- Retro Arcade Video Game
- Host a Podcast
- Lunchbox Guitar
- Kite Video Camera

Innovative and groundbreaking, Maker Dad will inspire fathers to geek out with their daughters and help girls cultivate an early affinity for math, science, and technology
