Wonder Kids Blog

Wayne Wonder Based in Gloucestershire in the U.K is one of the country's leading children's entertainers and winner of multiple awards across his field.

As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Batman & Justice League - Snacks

Batman party food from Wayne Wonder

It's another new week and I have a whole bunch of perfect treats for any little batman fans out there. Last week I launched a brand new party concept.  Magic Skillz is a new party option for children aged 9-12yrs, I can come along and wow the guests with an award winning close up magic show, I then spend the rest of the party teaching the guests how to perform some of the magic tricks they have just seen.  This is a really unique type of party where the guests leave feeling empowered by the new skills they have learned and will be showing all their friends and family the new tricks.

Find out more about this great new idea in birthday parties  and get a quote in minutes for Wayne Wonder to come to your party.

Lets kick this week off with some super easy snacks, I'll warn you now that these are not the healthiest of snacks but a treat every now and again like at a birthday party is no problem what so ever.

Harley Quinn Hammers

Just blocks of cheese with a toothpick inserted into them, thats it, it doesn't get much easier.

Poison Ivy Seeds

Two shades of green M&M's in a bowl, you see I told you this was simple. You can buy the M&M's here

Batman Crisp Cones Wonder Kids

Crisp Cones

Another quick simple idea, roll coloured card into a cone shape and tape them together, add the superhero logo to the top of the cone and fill with the kids favourite crisps. This is a great way of controlling how many crisps the kids eat.  If you roll the cone up tighter than you can even fill them with less than an entire bag of crisps. Fun and healthier for the kids.  These ones are all Batman but just change the colours and logo for at the whole of the Justice League.  I have included a list of them below.

Are you ready to go more in depth? Lets start with these awesome Oreo cake pops.  You can have the entire Justice League in cake pop form.  You will need some food colouring pens so I have added a link below to save you some time.  Just click on the picture of them to be zoomed through the internet to the creator's video.  It's a great step by step video, they are easy to make, you CAN do this.

So who are the Justice League, they are a team of Superhero's that came into existence before the Avengers.  The original team consisted of Batman, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, Wonder Woman and Martian Man Hunter.  The tea, has since grown and some members have left to go on other adventures etc.  Make sure you come back next week for more Batman and the Justice League fun, we are going to be doing something that we have never done before! You don't want to miss that one.  Before you go you will need a great drink to wash down all of these treats so how about some Joker Juice? You can also find all of our other Justice League ideas using the buttons below.

Joker Juice from Wonder Kids

Ingredients:
Lime Sorbet (Lemon & Lime sorbet works too)
Lemon-Lime Soda (Lilt or sprite)
Fresh Limes

 Directions:

Slice limes and put in the bottom of the pitcher of punch bowl.  For the pitcher, slice at least four limes (the more the merrier) and for the punch bowl, slice up at least six.Next add in the lime sorbet.  For a pitcher you’re looking at 8-10 scoops of sorbet and for the punch bowl, the entire container.Next it’s time for the lemon-lime soda (use your favorite brand).  If you want the fun foaming effect just pour it on in.  If you want less foam, gently pour the soda into the pitcher or punch bowl until it’s filled.

Batman & Justice League - Party

Batman Birthday Party from Wonder Kids

Hello and welcome to the third week of our Batman fun, make sure you check out the great ideas we've posted so far this month.

This week is going to be all about Party Fun, how do you make an awesome Batman/Justice League party?  Im going to show you some really cool things this week but the ideas I have already written about in the posts above work for birthday parties too.  Lets start with party invitations.  As Wayne Wonder I provide free invitations for my shows and I have a great comic/superhero themed Wayne Wonder Invite or you can use the great Batman themed invite I designed.

Party Decorations

Ok we have a few points to get through here.  I love the city sky line sillohette idea.  Very simple to do, just cut out a series of squares and rectangles and mount them to a wall.  This can be used as a great photo backdrop or just decoration. Now check out these super hot focus pulling tables, using the plastic tablecloth you can buy in rolls.  I love the red tablecloth used to look like Superman Capes on the chairs, you could make batman ones with black tablecloth and just sticking their logo's to the capes.  I also love the large comic bubbles in the other picture.  If you laminate these that make awesome place mats or mount them on card and cut them out to hang from the ceiling to make great decorations.  I have included some comic bubble print out below too.

Party favour Idea

I love this idea of Batman signal party favour's, I think the kids will really love this.  The only tricky bit is finding good affordable torch's.  I would recommend trying the pound shops especially closer to the winter months.  If you can find a small black and yellow torch for one pound each then this idea really can be affordable.  However if you just simply haven't got the time then I have included a great ready to go batman signal from Amazon below.  For the homemade torch's all you need to do is use a black sharpie to draw a batman logo on the light.  You may need to let it dry and go over it two or three times to make sure the ink is thick enough.

Batman & Justice League - Superhero Crafts

Batman Crafts from Wonder Kids

We never share your details and this way you will never be stuck for fun things to try with the kids.

Bat Cave from Wonder Kids

Batcave

This can be a reading nook or just a really cool hiding spot.  The key to this is to use the biggest cardboard box you can get your hands on.

You will need:

- large cardboard box (I used an appliance box)
- paper lunch bags or newspaper
- spray adhesive
- spray paint

**My box did not have a bottom on it.  If you are using a regular cardboard box you can choose to cut the flaps off the bottom if you want or leave them on.

1.  Cut an arched opening on one side of your box.

2.  Rip up your paper bags or newspaper into large-ish pieces.  I separated the layers of the bags to make it a bit easier to crumple them up and glue them on.

3.  Crumple up a piece of paper bag into a ball.  Slightly uncrumple it (is this even a word?).

4.  Spray a bit of adhesive onto the cardboard box.  This stuff works best when it is slightly tacky so you don't have to spray a lot.  Attach your uncrumpled ball so it resembles a rough rock by pressing down on the paper bag and shaping it with your hands.

5.  Cover the top and sides of the box with crumpled paper bag pieces.  I chose to leave the back uncovered so I could put it up against a wall.

6.  Spray paint (or leave it as is).  I used a mix of grey and dark brown.

Add a pillow inside, a batman sign and voila!  You've got your very own Bat Cave!

Wonder Woman Cuffs

  • Four toilet paper rolls for one set of cuffs
  • Paint
  • Glue
  • Yarn
  • Scissors
  • Hole Punch
  1. First cut a slit all the way down one side of all four paper rolls.  Two will be your cuffs and the other two will provide the material for your shapes.
  2. Flatten two of the rolls and cut superhero shapes from them.  Ideas include stars, bats, lightening bolts, letters, the sky’s the limit!
  3. Paint your pieces.  Paint all around your cuffs and on both sides of your shapes.  Be sure to use two different colors so that your super hero shapes really pop!
  4. Once the paint dries, glue your shapes to the top of your cuffs and allow to dry.
  5. Punch a few holes down each side of your cuff openings and lace them up by threading them with yarn.
  6. Now you’re ready to don your super cool cuffs and try out your new super powers.

So this can be applied to loads of different super hero's, The Flash would be red with a yellow lightening bolt, Aquaman could be Orange with a green trident, your only limited by your imagination.

Simple Batman Mask

This simple mask will make any superhero's day.  First you'll need to print out the template I have included below.

Here's everything you'll need

  • Sheet of Black of Craft Foam
  • Sheet of Yellow Craft Foam
  • Black Elastic
  • Hot glue gun

Lets Make It

Cut the mask out of the black foam, cut the bat sign out of yellow foam.  Measure your Childs head with the elastic and cut the elastic to size.  Use the hot glue to attach the elastic onto the mask.  Let it dry and your done.

We're all done for this week but make sure you come back next Tuesday for more great Batman and the Justice league fun.  In the meantime try last weeks ideas and some of our older posts below.

Batman & Justice League - Superhero Training

Justice League Header from Wonder Kids

Welcome to May here at Wonder Kids, Summer is nearly here and we are really ramping up, not only will we have bumper posts every week this month whilst we explore how we can have fun with Batman and the Justice League.  We will also be updating the Seasonal section of the site, ready for Summer and I have a brand new Re-Mix post to share, you can still check out the current one here. On top of all of this I will have dozens of new recipes for the Kids Kitchen, a top secret Magic Convention that I will be attending and writing about and A family trip to Disneyland Paris planned too. Of course I will be writing about that trip too. So this month is scheduled to be crazy! With lots of bookings in the diary too, I just received some prototype shoes from Nike, take a look in the video below.

This first week I am going to show you some super fun games you can play with a Batman and the Justice League theme.  I have already explored Marvel and the Avengers which you can take a look by just clicking on Hulk.

Superhero Strike from Wonder Kids

Super Villain Strike

This great game is super simple to put together, in fact I did something similar for the Minions.  Empty some 1 or 2ltr drinks bottles, clean and dry them and then use spray paint to paint each one a different colour.  The person that knocks the most pins over is the winner.  Make it harder by adding sand/water into the pins so that they are harder to knock over.

Superhero Training from Wonder Kids

Superhero Training Boards

Little Superhero's will love this game, you hold a small board facing the ground and ask each child to hit the board as hard as they can.  If they are able to break the board they win a prize.  The boards used are very thin Polystyrine.  To make it super simple I have included a link for some polystyrene boards below, just cut them into small planks and there is plenty of fun to be had.

Here are a couple of quick ideas, How about trying to Tie up the Super Villain, use paper streamers or toilet roll and give the kids a time limit, the person that ties up their villain the best is the winner, Also how about Can you Unfreeze Batman? or any other superhero you have around.  Use either a balloon or cake tin to encapsulate the superhero in ice.  I find that at the very least they will need to be in the freezer overnight normally two to make them really solid.  I have done this with my family many times with many different themes, I tried it with Dinosaurs using balloons, you can just have them squirt warm water at the ice or you can try giving them small toy hammers to bash at the ice or turn it into a little science experiment by showing them the affect salt has on ice.

Shoot the villains game from Wonder Kids

Shoot the Villains (Target Practise)

I love this idea, you'll need some silly string for the kids to shoot the villains.  You can just get some cans and let the kids spray the villains or you can get these awesome silly string guns.  I found these a while back and used them to finish my halloween shows, spraying all the kids with silly string.   It was tons of fun but I think it would work brilliantly in this game.

I have included a link to buy them to save you some time trying to find them.  I have never found them in a store only online. In the UK you can buy them from Tesco online but again I have never seen them actually in store.  You may be able to find them on eBay but I couldn't find any on Amazon.

Now you need some targets.  I have made below a bunch of super villains on A4 sheets of paper that you can print out.  You can choose to mount these on a board like in the picture above or what I would like to do is hang them on a washing line with either cable ties or just pegs and the get the kids shoot them.  If you have a rotating washing line you can spin the pictures a little and create a real challenge for the kids.

Thats it for our first week of Batman and the Justice League but make sure you come back next Tuesday for even more great ideas.
