Wonder Kids Blog

Wayne Wonder Based in Gloucestershire in the U.K is one of the country's leading children's entertainers and winner of multiple awards across his field.

As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Minions Re-Mixed - Minion Memory Game Super Edition

Minions are out of the box

This is a great example of what the Re-Mixed blog posts are all about.  I originally covered Minions back in 2014 and I included a memory game on that but this is a much better version and its been brought bang up to date with the super hero theming for the Marvel dominated world we live in at the moment.

Minion Memory Game from Wonder Kids

This is basically the old game of Pairs.  You'll need to print out two sets of the cards below.  Just click on them for the printable PDF's. You can just print out the card on paper/card stock or what I did was use the Yellow Minion print as a backing for the cards.  To doing this I printed two of everything on A4 paper stock.  then stuck an A4 card sheet to the A4 Yellow backing.  Now I left that to dry so whilst it's drying why not try this with the kids.

Once it dried I cut out each card and now it has a great yellow backing on it. Play this game on a table or on the floor.  Mix all the cards up making sure they are FACE DOWN.  Now you take it in trans to turn over only two cards, if they match you keep them, if they are different you turn them back over.  If you find a matching pair you get another go.  The person with the most pairs when all the cards are gone is the winner.

Supplies needed for this great easy game you can have fun at home with-

  • A4 paper or card stock
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Thats it, it doesn't get much easier.

Minions Re-Mixed - Minion Hats

Minions Re-Mixed by Wonder Kids
Minion Visors from Wonder Kids How to make them

Here is one of my favourite ideas from the original Minions post.  Now with the extra Minion films that have come out we could make either the normal yellow minions or the Purple evil minions. These hats are super easy and all the supplies to make them should be really easy to find either online or at your local hobby store.  I found everything at my local Hobbycraft shop.

Evil Minion Hats from Wonder Kids

What you need

  • Yellow Foam Visors

  • Black Craft Foam, roughly 1 sheet

    per three hats

  • Big googly eyes

  • Black pipe cleaners for hair

  • PVA glue

Cut out thin strips of black foam into goggle shapes, stick the big goggly eyes in place on the black foam making goggles. Make sure you make some with one eye and some with two eyes.

Glue the goggles onto the yellow visors, making sure the visors are up-side down. Poke the pipe cleaners through the top of the visors for hair.

Minions Re-Mixed - Cookie Robots

A brand new idea, adding to the Minions theme this time.  I love getting kids in the kitchen and this is the perfect opportunity to do just that.  First lets make the cookies and then we'll turn them into robots.

Ingredients

  • 150g salted butter, softened
  • 80g light brown muscovado sugar
  • 80g granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 225g plain flour
  • ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 200g plain chocolate chip or chunks

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C/170C fan/gas 5. Line two baking trays with non-stick baking paper.

  2. Put the butter and sugars into a bowl and beat until creamy. Beat in the vanilla extract and egg. Sieve the flour, bicarbonate of soda and salt over the mixture and mix in with a wooden spoon. Add the chocolate chips and stir well.

  3. Using a teaspoon, place small mounds of the mixture well apart on the baking trays. Bake in the oven for 8–10 mins until light brown on the edges and still slightly soft in the centre.

  4. Leave on the tray for a couple of minutes to firm up and then transfer to a cooling rack.

To make these great cookies look like robots just use kitchen foil to make the legs and I used my wife lipstick lid to hold the central foil around. remove the lid so you can use it again. make a small hole in the centre of the cookie and slide the cylinder through the hole. Make sure you search for minions using the search bar above, I have loads more great ideas for you too.

Minons Re-Mixed - Take on the Minions

Hello and welcome to the first ever Wonder Kids Re-Mixed post.  One of my first ever blog posts covered the Minions back in 2014.  I think the time is right to re-mix this post and add loads of new ideas to it too.

Minion Pins Mions Remixed

Take on the Minions

I have here a couple of brilliant games using these super easy to make Minion Pins. You'll need as many 2ltr soda bottles as you would like to use.  You'll also need everything below:-

  • Yellow Spray Paint
  • Blue Spay Paint
  • Glue
  • Free Goggle print out (below)
  • Marker Pen

Just print out the goggles below and stick them onto the bottles.

Now you’re all set for fun! These can be use a bowling pins just use a regular small ball, maybe a tennis ball. But my favourite thing to do with these are Nerf guns, lots of boys have at least one nerf gun. Here’s the idea, have the kids leave the room whilst you set up minions all over the place. The kids then come in and try to hit all the targets. I promise you the kids will not get bored of this for a very long time and will soon be setting the pins up themselves to shoot down. This is just the first in anew series of posts about the minions, come back soon for more.
