Wonder Kids Blog

Wayne Wonder Based in Gloucestershire in the U.K is one of the country's leading children's entertainers and winner of multiple awards across his field.

As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Pokemon Go - Poke Snacks

Now one thing I think is missing from all of my Pokemon blog posts are some really easy but cool Poke Snacks, whether you are having a full Pokemon party, a Pokemon TV marathon or a gaming session, some great Pokemon Snacks will always take it up to the next level. Make sure you check out all of the other Pokemon blog posts I have written too, there are so many great ideas from decorations, free party printables and even some great games too. At the end of this post I have included a gallery of Pokemon birthday cakes, just for inspiration.

Before we get started with our first snack how about making a special lunch for your little Pokemon Fan, I found this great healthy Pokemon lunch and its easy to do.  Another little gem I found was this cool popcorn, I must find out how to make different flavoured popcorn one day.  As always thank you for coming to check out my blog, make sure you stay up to date with my public events too.

Babybel Cheese Pokeball

You'll need, babybel cheese, black card, scissors, hole punch, sticky tape, mcdonalds straw

First cut a strip of the card and punch it with the hole punch. Cut out the red wax on the cheese using the straw as a template for the round semi circle.  Wrap the strip of card around the cheese and use a small piece of tape on the back to keep it in place.

Candy Poke Balls

Here’s what you need to make Pokemon candy pokeballs:

  • Red candy melts
  • White candy melts
  • Black candy melts
  • Disposable icing bag
  • Spoons
  • White chocolate candies
  • Mini M&Ms

Melt the red candy melts according to package directions. Add a small amount to one of the circle cavities and use the back of the spoon to spread it around. Make sure to completely coat the inside. Fill all the cavities and chill in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes to set.

Repeat the process with the white candy melts.

Add a second layer of each color and chill in the refrigerator for 5-10 minutes to set.

Remove the set chocolate from the silicone mold, then place the white bottoms loosely back inside. Try to hold the chocolate as little as possible because the heat from your hands will cause it to melt.

Fill the white bottoms with Mini M&Ms or other candies.

Spread some of the red candy melts onto the edges of the red candies and place on top of the white to create the pokeballs. Allow to harden.

Turn the pokeballs on their sides. Melt the black candy melts inside the icing bag and snip off the end with a pair of scissors.

Pipe a black line around the front of each pokeball and let it harden. Turn the balls and repeat on the back side.

Add a bit of black candy melts to the back of a white candy and attach to the front of each pokeball for a button.

Poke Pizza Anyone?

Ok so you can use my Pizza recipe from the St Patricks Day blog post I did a while back, instead of adding the rainbow toppings just follow the picture, half just covered with a mix of cheeses, the other half covers with pepperoni and then use black olives cut into slices for the middle section.

As promised below is a gallery of inspiration Pokemon birthday cakes, find some that you like and see if a local baker can reproduce something similar.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Activity Pack

Getting my awesome TMNT tent for my birthday, I spent many fun hours in there.

Getting my awesome TMNT tent for my birthday, I spent many fun hours in there.

I have been waiting to do this one ever since I started these activity packs, but I just couldn't find the right ideas to include.  Well now I have something I think is well worth trying.  The last activity in this pack is something you can do together or could be done as a present for a TMNT fan.  I know I would have loved one as a kid.

Ok, so as always I have some colouring pages for you to print and a dot to dot sheet too!

Colour in one of these and post a picture of it on my Facebook Page to win some Wayne Wonder Prizes, just click the button below

Pizza Magnets

Make your own pizza magnets, this is a great rainy day activity and you can use them to keep your pizza take away menus on the fridge!

First you'll need a trip to your local craft shop. I love my local Hobby Craft I have a great relationship with them and Im going to be performing there this easter (2015) take a look at my events tab on my Facebook page here.

You'll need

  • Light Brown Fab Foam
  • Yellow Felt
  • Red Felt
  • Black Felt
  • Green Felt
  • White Felt
  • Sheet Magnets (these often come with a peel off sticky back and are easy to cut)
  • PVA Glue

First, before you even start or mention the activity to your little ones, pre cut the three big circles that you will need.  We have a set of jars at home in different sizes.  I used a larger jar as the template for the brown foam, a slightly smaller one for the red "sauce" and an even smaller one for the yellow "cheese".

Start with the brown foam and glue on a sheet magnet to one side.  You can use the sticky back combine with pva glue but I used a hot glue gun for this bit to make it even sturdier.  This will be the back of the pizza (also make sure they put their name on the back if you're making more than one).  On the other side of the foam, glue the red sauce topping and then the yellow cheese topping.

Now for the green peppers, white onion and black olive's, you can do them together.  Cut the felt into small strips and let the kids cut the strips into small chunks.  For the red pepperoni use a 5pence coin to trace around and cut out. now the kids just need to glue on what bits they want where.  Allow to dry and boom, you have an awesome custom made pizza magnet.  This is a great activity for birthday parties as the kids are arriving.  They can then take them home as part of their party bag.

Pizza Box Activity Pack

This is just an incredible idea that can be used at a birthday party for each child, as a birthday present for your child or a niece/nephew or just a fun thing to do as an activity.  So what have I got in the box.

  • Pizza Box (I will show you where to buy these)
  • Foam Nunchucks
  • TMNT tattoos
  • TMNT puzzle
  • Felt TMNT mask
  • TMNT sweets

If you are giving this a present you could include a TMNT dvd either animated or live action or a small TMNT lego set.

Pizza Boxes - This is probably the trickiest part, most of the time when you find these for sale online its for a pack of 100.  They are quite cheap but I know 100 is more than anybody needs.  Heres a link for a pack of 50 boxes from Amazon.  You could also try eBay.

Foam Nunchucks

These are super cool and easy to make, heres what you need

  • 1/2 inch foam pipe insulation (get this at B&Q) cut into 7" lengths, you'll need two 7" lengths for each set of nunchucks you want to make.
  • Coloured duct tape - you can now get a whole range of duct tape from Hobby Craft
  • Nylon Cord - any colour you want again you should be able to get this from Hobby Craft or at least something similar.

Step one, cut three 10" lengths of the nylon cord for each set of nunchucks you want to make.  Line up the cords and tie a knot about 3" along, plait the cords together until you get to 3" from the end and tie another knot.  Use the un-plaited cord to duct tape to the foam insulation.

TMNT Mask - First use this FREE pattern - cut it out of thick card and use it as a template to trace around on the felt (hint, sharpies work well on felt) Fold the felt in half to use the pattern so you get two identical sides. Wrap around a kids head and tie.

Thats it for this activity pack, again post a pic on the Wayne Wonder Facebook Page of you trying anything from the activity centre and I will send you some prizes.
