As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Fish Cakes - Kids Kitchen Recipe

These fish cakes are the best fish cakes you will ever try and they are so easy to make too.  If you would like to find more great recipes then just click on the picture above to explore our Kids Kitchen.  So like the rest of our recipes here at Wonder Kids they are all designed to get the kids in the kitchen and helping. Fish Cakes


  • 4 Cod Fillets (I use frozen but fresh is best)
  • pack of cooked prawns (optional)
  • 3 tbsp Parsley
  • Pinch of paprika
  • 1 clove of garlic crushed
  • pinch of dried chilli flakes
  • 4 small knobs of butter plus extra for mash potato
  • 1 tin crab
  • 5 or 6 potatoes
  • mayonaise
  • zest of one lemon
  • panko breadcrumbs


  1. Start with the cod fillets, cook them in foil parcels, just add a small knob of butter salt and a pinch of parsley to each parcel. If using frozen fish these should take about 20mins
  2. whilst they are cooking peel and boil the potatoes for mashing
  3. leave the cod to cool once cooked
  4. If you are adding cooked prawns, I squash them with the flat side of a large knife and then dice them into small pieces. I got my daughter to do this bit, you can see her in the video.
  5. combine the mash, cod, prawns (optional) and crab gently. Don't break up the cod too much, add paprika, chilli, remaining parsley, garlic, lemon zest and a little mayonnaise.  Mix together until you have a thick sticky mixture, add more mayonnaise as needed.
  6. Make one large cake using the entire mixture. Nowslice into however many portions you need, slice it up like a pizza, this way you get equal portions.
  7. shape individually with wet hands into cakes and allow to rest in the fridge for 20-30mins
  8. gently roll the cakes in the breadcrumbs and fry into vegetable oil until golden, about 4 mins on each side. Remember the actual cakes don't need cooking, this is just to warm them up and get the breadcrumbs golden.
