Wonder Kids Blog

Wayne Wonder Based in Gloucestershire in the U.K is one of the country's leading children's entertainers and winner of multiple awards across his field.

As a magician and children's entertainer I am constantly on the look out for new ideas, different takes on old ideas and practically anything I can add into my repertoire.  As a by product of this I come across or invent lots of ideas that for one reason or another I can't fit into my shows.  That doesn't mean that they are no good in fact many of them work great for ideas to try at home.  I only realised this after having my daughter and seeing how much she enjoyed them.  That's why I have created this resource, for families to visit take away what they want and try these things at home.  You have everything at your fingertips for great, easy and inexpensive ideas for your little ones at home.  Going out to new experiences and spending time together as a family is important if not crucial to a child's development but that doesn't mean you have to go out and spend lots of money every time, you can create amazing memories just by investing a little bit of time at home with these great ideas.

Sleepover's - More ideas

Im back with the final part of my Sleepover blogs.  I have found a few more ideas that I couldn't fit into the other posts but I thought they were just too good to miss out on. You can find the other three blogs using the links below.

Sleepover Part 1

Sleepover Part 2

Sleepover Part 3

I also have an announcement to make, I have now launched the official Wonder Kids group on Facebook, All of these blog posts will be uploaded to the group as well as lots of videos in the future.  Plus as it is a group on Facebook it's a great platform to communicate and share ideas on.  If you find any really good ideas, then YOU too can post to a growing community.  To get started in this group just click on the image below and join the group.  It's will be a growing friendly and creative group, great to get ideas for fun things to try at home.

Giant Naughts & Crosses

I think this would work great as part of a tournament where the competition gets harder and winners get to play on.  The kids that lose a game have to pick a side to cheer on and win a prize if their team wins.  So you could start with rounds of giant naughts and crosses, then move onto Balloon Ping Pong and then on to Gross Test etc. So here's what you need -

Tape, masking tape, washi tape or electrical tape.  In prefer masking tape

10 x paper plates

1 x big chunky marker pen, any colour will do

Pretty self explanatory, tape the grid on the floor.  Mark 5 plates with crosses and 5 plates with naughts each player picks a side and away you go.

Design your own Eye Masks

Another super simple but totally cool idea.  Great for something to do whilst everyone is arriving or as a chill out activity later in the day.  All you need are some cheap eye masks (click here), some fabric pens and some stick on sequins.

Before we carry on, I was invited back to the Lollipop Lighthouse recently and I showed the Captain how to make a Balloon Penguin, watch the video below and make sure you subscribe to the channel, it's free and now has loads of great entertainment just for kids.

Samurai Pillow Fight

Use the second piece of fabric to tie the cardboard handle to the pillowcase. Now yell “Cowabunga!!!” because it’s ninja pillow fight time.

These awesome pillow weapons look super cool and take pillow fights to a whole new level. Her's what you need:

  • White Cotton Pillowcase
  • Red, Orange, Blue Fabric (1 yard of each is way more than enough)
  • White String
  • Scissors
  • Cardboard Tube
  • Fabric Pens
  • Soft, Fluffy Pillows

Step 1

Take the cardboard tube from a paper towel roll and cut it into 7-inch pieces. Using a strip of fabric about 12” x 18”, place the cardboard tube along the short side of the fabric and roll it up.

Step 2

Tuck the remaining fabric inside the tube to secure it. Then wrap the white string around the tube to create a diamond samurai sword pattern.

Step 3

Use the second piece of fabric to tie the cardboard handle to the pillowcase. Now yell “Cowabunga!!!” because it’s ninja pillow fight time, just add some artwork with the fabric pens and your all set.

Support the Kids Club

Hello and Welcome to my Kids Club,  I started it in 2014 when my daughter was 4yrs old, I came to the realisation that I needed more easy, fun, creative and educational things to do at home.  I don't mind her using tech every now and again but I'm not one for her to be constantly on her iPad or glued to the TV.  I would much rather see her playing a game, getting outside or building something.

I live in the U.K where the weather is mostly grey and miserable, so being stuck indoors you either get creative or you spend a small fortune at indoor play centres.  I know which one I would rather choose.

So how does this Kids Club work?

It's all FREE! Yes straight from the start of this idea I knew I didn't want to charge for this, it does take a lot of my time up but my daughter loves it and I now get great feedback from other parents, restaurants, teachers and even other entertainers use some of the game ideas in their parties.  So I feel like this Kids Club is doing a really good thing.

Every Month I pick a theme to explore, now if you have any ideas for themes that I haven't done yet then just post them in the comments section below or get in touch through social media, I would love to hear from you.  Every week I post a new game/craft/idea sticking to the month's theme.

Make sure you explore the Kids Club, There are a few ways to do this

  1. Use the search bar at the top of the page to search for anything you like, this is great for searching themes like Christmas, Halloween etc
  2. To the right, at the top of the page there is a drop down menu organised by the different topics that I have covered so far.  In the past this dropdown menu was organised by month so you may see that on my older posts
  3. keep scrolling down and you'll find a grid of some of my most recent posts, thats a great place to start.

To get you started I have included below some of my favourite topics that I have covered remember there is so much more to explore and if you share a picture on my Facebook page of your family enjoying one of the activities then I'll send you a goodie bag full of Wayne Wonder Prizes.

It took me about a year to get around to doing a Ninja Turtle blog post but I'm a huge Ninja Turtle fan, have been since I was a kid.  there is photographic evidence of this in the post, just click the picture opposite to find out how to:

  • Make your own fun, safe nun-chucks

Inside Out - Games

Support the Kids Club

This post is early this month, normally I post every Tuesday lunchtime but I'm going with the family to Legoland for the day tomorrow and I had the day off today as it's a bank holiday in the U.K so I had time to put this post together.  This month I have so many awesome Inside Out inspired ideas to share with you.  Lets start with week 1, I have two great free games for you.  Before we crack on please do take a second to check out my Facebook Page, over a thousand parents are already joining in.  You'll also find out about loads of public events I attend throughout the year.  It's a free service so go and make the most of it.

Inside Out Bingo

I have quite a collection of bingo games in the Kids Club now, most of them are designed to play along with whilst watching the related film.  This is more of a traditional bingo game. Inside Out Bingo includes all of your favorite characters from the Inside Out movie!! In the bingo set, there are eight bingo cards in different orders, so it's easy to print and use for your parties. It's fun for every age to play, and the calling cards include the names of the characters in case you don't know who they are. Just click on the image opposite to download the FREE bingo game printable. Once you have this follow on the game instructions below and have fun.

Game Instructions

1. Pick some kind of object to mark your squares or use a dry erase marker.

2. Give each player a Bingo card and markers (or put your own together with the blank set). Have each player put a marker over the free space.

3. Have one person choose a calling card and say it out loud. Each player will cover that item on their card with a marker. Once a player has 5 squares covered in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally), they call out "BINGO!" and win the game!

Inside Out Free Board game

This is just awesome, I've played this with my daughter and it costs you next to nothing.  To play this emotions game, you’ll download my FREE Printable, print it off, then cut out the cards. I printed off 3 sets of cards. For the playing pieces, I purchased the the Mini Inside Out Figures at Toys “R” Us. You can use anything as counters to get around the board though.  The first time we played it we used some spare Loom Bands (I'm sure most of us have some of those still hanging around, check out my Loom Bands pack here).

You’ll move the pieces as the cards tell you to. Some tell you to move forward and some tell you to move back. When you land on a “memory” spot (the spots on the game board with a circle on them), you have to tell a memory of when you had that emotion. So, if you land on green, you would tell of a time you were Disgusted. Each color matches the emotions of a character from Inside Out. I’ve included some instructions in the free printable for reference. Just click on the image above to download and print your FREE board game.

Let's Get Loopy over Loom Bands!

I love Loom Bands, I think it's great to see children making them, taking away their time from playing computer games, or being hooked on television. It enhances their creativity and imagination. It takes away boredom, and trains them to focus on that particular activity. Included in this activity pack:-

  • Step by step guide to make a basic loom band
  • video tutorials for two more advanced loom bands
  • Tutorial for a frozen snowflake charm
  • video tutorials for loads more creative designs
  • Storage ideas
  • Wayne Wonder's Rainbow Loom Band Challenge

Just click the button above for your FREE activity pack and make sure you share some pics on my Facebook page below. As always the best pics win prizes!
